Who is GUMMiBEAR?
GUMMiBEAR is a German multilingual virtual musician and animated character known for upbeat novelty Eurodance songs. The project rose to international fame with the viral single commonly called I’m a Gummy Bear, first appearing in the mid 2000s and active from 2006 onward.
The original song was written by Christian P. Schneider. The early CGI promo was directed, designed and animated by Pete Dodd and produced through Wilfilm in Copenhagen for Ministry of Sound, and the character has since appeared on albums, video releases and multiple language versions.
GUMMiBEAR Visual Style and Aesthetics
GUMMiBEAR appears as a stylized green gummy bear with blue eyes, an exposed belly button, orange Y-front briefs and white sneakers. Distinctive visual markers include a partly nibbled ear and a sugar-crusted muzzle with two small lower teeth, a look used consistently across music videos and merchandise art.
Persona & Music
GUMMiBEAR projects a playful, energetic and child-friendly persona delivered through catchy, dance-oriented melodies and simple, repetitive lyrics. The character performs in many languages and records music in pop, dance and bubblegum styles, appearing on international albums such as I Am Your Gummy Bear and La La Love to Dance.
Content Type & Format
GUMMiBEAR's content centers on animated music videos and short viral clips published on major video platforms, supplemented by full-length audio releases and albums. The YouTube music videos are the project's primary format and have driven much of its global recognition.
Beyond videos, GUMMiBEAR's content includes studio singles, compilation albums and home video releases such as a video collection and a holiday special. These formats extend the character's presence from streaming platforms into physical and digital releases.
GUMMiBEAR's personality comes through brief, shareable visual moments, lyrical hooks and language-specific versions that reach family and children audiences across platforms like YouTube and Instagram. The project has also used licensed mobile formats such as ringtones as part of its distribution mix.
GUMMiBEAR Collaborations and Campaigns
Official Music Video Production: Ministry of Sound x GUMMiBEAR: In 2006 a 30‑second CGI promo was produced through Wilfilm for Ministry of Sound to present the character visually. The short was later expanded into full music video formats and distributed widely online, where it became the core visual asset for the brand.
Ringtone Licensing Campaign: Jamba x GUMMiBEAR: Around the late 2000s the character and its tracks were marketed through mobile ringtone services such as Jamba, turning the viral song into a commercial mobile product used in promotions and distribution. This licensing helped extend the music into consumer mobile channels.
Video Collection Release: Gummybear International x GUMMiBEAR: A video collection and related home video releases were distributed by the Gummybear International label in the late 2000s, packaging multiple language videos and songs for home audiences and retail distribution.
